Upper Volta (1959-1984)
On 4 August 1984, the Republic of Upper Volta changed its name to Burkina Faso and adopted a new flag. The three stripes on the old flag represented the three branches of the Volta River: the Black Volta, the White Volta, and the Red Volta. It’s also identical to the old flag of the German Empire, although I’m assuming that was unintentional.
