South Kasai (1960-1961) The Mining State of South Kasai was one of the many states that tried to break away from the central government in Léopoldville during the Congo Crisis. It declared its autonomy on 8 August 1960. Its flag contained a golden V for Victory. There’s a different rendition of the flag on Wikipedia, but photos of the flag show a darker green and a V that doesn’t reach all the way to the edge.
