Lithuania (proposed, 1940)
Some Liuthanians in the pre-War period were never fully satisfied with the look of their flag (whose design process I described in an earlier post). The feeling was that the tricolour didn’t have any connection to Lithuanian history. In May of 1940 a proposal for a new flag with a new set of colours taken from the country’s coat of arms came before the President. The Soviet occupation the following month put a end to any considerations of a flag change.
