AFGHANISTAN • Habibullah Kalakani overthrew Amanullah Khan and declared himself King of Afghanistan on January 17. During his reign he flew the country's traditional black flag. On October 13 he himself was overthrown by forces loyal to Mohammed Nadir Shah, who restored the tricolour flag but with the old coat of arms in the centre.
ALBANIA • Albania redrew the two-headed eagle and adopted a state flag with a crown on it on August 8.
