February 7: Bolivia enacted a new constitution which established the wiphala banner — a traditional symbol of the indigenous people of the Andes — as a co-national flag. The colour scheme on this version of the wiphala represented Qulla Suyu, the southern quarter of the Inca empire.
September 7: Tokelau adopted a national flag, depicting a canoe sailing towards the Southern Cross.
November 26: Ecuador shortened the ratio of its flag from 1:2 to 2:3
