Events of 2010
July 17: The New Caledonian government began officially flying the Kanak flag alongside the French tricolour.
July 29: Malawi changed its national flag, replacing the rising sun with a fully-risen sun to symbolize the progress the country had made since independence. The change proved deeply unpopular and was reversed within two years.
September 17: The Moldovan flag was changed to have the emblem on both the front and back sides of the flag.
October 10: The Netherlands Antilles was dissolved. Curaçao and Sint Maarten became autonomous overseas countries, while Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius became special municipalities of the Netherlands.
October 21: Myanmar adopted a new flag. The design was something of an unusual historical hybrid, combining the yellow-green-red tricolour of the former Japanese puppet state with the white star used by the anti-Japanese resistance.
November 11: Serbia made minor adjustments to the coat of arms on its state flag.
